John Illingworth and two members of the team attended the Medicines for Children Research Network (MCRN) stakeholder meeting in March 2011 held in Manchester. This proved to be a very interesting and simulating day with over 240 delegates attending along with 20 exhibitors and network representatives.
The main theme for the conference was “sharing best practice on widening participation in children’s research”. Breakout workshops were held with each group being given a specific topic to discuss, produce outcomes and feedback into an afternoon session.
A panel of young people who were either still, or had been, participating in a clinical trial took part in a busy question and answer session with questions from Doctors and Nurses alike. Their feedback was extremely interesting and thought provoking with several suggestions on how to improve our communication skills and explain randomisation in a more comprehensive way.
